Yet another article I was reading today (honestly you’d think I never do any actual work in college!) this one about the idea of shared games between boyfriends/girlfriends. I have some experience of this after staying at Tim’s and sharing his 360 and PS3 with him, we never played the Wii though.
On the 360 side we’ve played Bioshock and Dead Rising at the same time. God of War is the only one on the PS3 really. We’ve never actually done a joint gamesave, you can’t on the 360 since you wouldn’t get achievies for both account so it’s pointless, but we have been playing through at the same time. It’s very annoying when you see the other person get to a part you haven’t and then you watch them and realize you’ve just spoilt the entire section for yourself and then you have to go through it yourself again.
All in all, single players are just that; single player. If you want to play through together, get a game that supports co-op campaign.

I just finished reading this article on Level Up and I have to say it was very intriguing. Basically it poses the question that, if you were held accountable for your actions within a game, would you play differently? Obviously it’s not talking about you getting arrested for killing someone because who would then want to play games like Grand Theft Auto and Halo? More it delves into the idea that you are ‘tagged’ for things you do. The example they used was the moral decision in Bioshock of whether to kill or save the Little Sisters, young children who had been infected with a power source that you could either get a little of by saving them or a lot by killing them. This sort of decision segregates the two most basic kind of gamers out there, the ones who’ll do what’s ‘right’ and the ones who’ll do anything to get ahead.
But what if you got tagged for being a ‘kiddie killer’ and everyone on your Friends List could see this, would you change your ways? What about if your family could see? What about if in a game like GTA every kill was logged, their ages, jobs, disabilities on display for everyone to see, would you feel more accountable?
On one level I think that is a really fascinating insight into the evolving social aspects of gaming today, but really when I’m playing a game I just wanna escape reality. This sort of insight is delving a bit close to the gamers=murderers debate and could end up giving the crazies more ammo.

Greenpeace released an updated version of it’s chart measuring the worlds leading electronics manufacturers “greenness”. Surprisingly Nintendo is on the bottom and Sony is almost at the top, it’s the opposite of the sales charts! I suppose churning out all those billions of Wii’s was bound to have a negative effect on Ninty somewhere.

Finally getting it’s release next week is the Xbox 360 Fall Update. Better late than never I suppose and it’s at least bringing some valuable stuff. Sort of. There’s a whole host of new original Xbox games to play with backwards compatibility, you can view you Friends’ friends lists, download Original Xbox games and add a small biography about yourself.
Exciting stuff huh?

Yey! I can now sleep easily knowing that I’m not going to turn into a psychopath because I play video-games. I’m so glad this finding has been found.
I’ve played most shooters out on the 360, do I get a craving to go out on a homicidal (should that be homocidal? Just wait till the first kid to shoot up a school is gay and that’ll be the term the media give him) rampage? No.
However I still think it’s a factor. I’m pretty sure it’s not a coincidence that a couple of the incidents where people have gone on gun rampages have been gamers. But games are not solely to blame, it’ll be a concoction of various influences. I blame rap music.

Apparently if you rent games you are far less likely to buy them in the end, rather than more. You play them till you complete them and then you send them back, never to buy them in the end. This doesn’t really come as a surprise since most people who rent films don’t end up buying them too I’d assume.
I’ve bought only one game that I’ve rented, Bioshock. However there are more I would buy if I had the money. Command and Conquer 3, Lord of the Rings Battle for Middle Earth, The Orange Box, Mass Effect, PGR4, Call of Duty 4. So while I have probably not bought a lot of games because I’ve rented them, most of them I didn’t want to buy in the first place anyway.

How super exciting! It’s been confirmed that Billie Piper will reprise her role as Rose in Doctor Who for three episodes of Season Four. I can’t wait, I loved Rose and never warmed to Martha so I’m glad to see her back. It will be interesting to see how they are gonna handle it since Rose was trapped in an alternate reality with no way back. If it’s an RTD written episode then I’m sure it’ll make no sense at all but there’ll be lots of explosions to distract us from that.
You just know Rose and Martha are gonna have a right bitch off, personally I can’t wait.

This could go either way. Either it’ll be really good and allow you to watch your favourite tv shows for free for up to a week after they’re on tv, or it’ll be really shit and it’ll be Windows only and you’ll have to pay and there won’t be a lot of the best shows on there. I’m really hoping it goes the first way and finally brings British TV up to a par with US TV as far as online. Who knows though…

The iPhone goes on sale in France tomorrow, for how much though no one knows. Orange has yet to reveal any kind of pricing for the phone or the monthly plans except for the lowest plan which will cost €49 and you only get 2 hours of talk and 50 texts, plus it’s a 24 month contract. That’s just outrageous, why is Apple wanting it’s product to fail so badly with these high priced tariffs in European countries? Do we not buy enough iPods?
One thing the CEO of Orange did announce that was a bit more positive is that there will be an unlocked version of the iPhone available at launch for a “significantly lower” price than T-Mobiles asking investment of €999. So if you wanna know just how significant that low price is, well you’re gonna have to wait to find out in the morning.
I’m thinking the iPhone might not make much of an impact what with the deadly rioting going on in Paris and taking up most of the headlines. For some reason an outrageously expensive phone for only rich people might go down bad with the financially challenged rioters. Just an idea Apple.
On another note I saw an iPhone advert as I was driving through the rough end of Paisley to get to Glasgow Airport last night, targeted advertising or what?

If any of you random internet stalkers were wondering. Just don’t go hunting me down now! Cos I’ll be a pissed if you turn up on my doorstep wanting to kill me. That’s just rude.
