Spotlight on Spotlight
In all the time I had Tiger on my MacBook I never once used Spotlight, the searching utility in OS X 10.4. It was slow and just basically crap. But then out came Leopard with revamped Spotlight and so I thought I’d give it a whirl. It’s actually pretty good, it’s fast, it gives you a variety of results from places it’s searched. You can even set the order it searches your system in or which folder it shouldn’t look in. So if you’ve got some naughty photos you posted on MySpace or whatever and you’re giving a demonstration of Spotlight to your relatives over the holidays, it keeps things from getting awkward.
However it does have one annoying niggle. Say I did a search for Transmission (my torrent program) but I accidentally spelt it Transmision, Spotlight wouldn’t find the program. Quicksilver, the app launcher I used to use before Spotlight, would’ve though so it’s a bit annoying that Spotlight needs to be so exact.
