Favourite Games
Since it’s Sunday (again) and I’m bored (again) I figured I’d post my favourite games on the 360 so far in a variety of categories:
First Person Shooter
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
I wasn’t looking forward to this because of the disappointment that was Call of Duty 3 but after I saw the first trailer of the new modern day setting I was blown away. When the multiplayer beta came out I played it for hours on end and I don’t know if I’ve ever had such fun in a multiplayer shooter which is not easy for me to say since I’ve played dozens.
Runner Up: Halo 3
Racing/Driving
Project Gotham Racing 4
Again another game that sort of fell off the wagon with it’s 3rd iteration. I thought this wasn’t gonna be much better but it’s actually very fun and reminds me a lot of PGR2 which is my favourite of the series. The introduction of the motorbikes definitely shook things up and reinvigorated the series a bit. It remains to be seen whether PGR5 will happen now that Activision owns Bizarre but Microsoft owns the series. Hopefully they can work something out.
Runner Up: Test Drive Unlimited
Sandbox/Open World
Crackdown
I only bought this game to get the Halo 3 beta key so I was pleasantly surprised that it was actually a lot of fun. It’s still the only game to make my stomach lurch when I drop from a height. It’s a horrible but exhilarating feeling.
Runner Up: Just Cause
Role Playing
Mass Effect
What a game, and what less would you expect from BioWare? I’ve still to download the new downloadable content but I’m no doubt it’ll be more than worth the asking price. My only gripe was the side quests were just a tad repetitive.
Runner Up: ——
3rd Person/Action
Dead Rising
I had barely heard anything about this game before Tim purchased it in August 2006 yet I ended up playing it more than him and still love to play it 2 years later. Brilliant game and showcases the power of the 360 with the amount of zombies it can create on the screen at once.
Runner Up: Lost Planet
Real Time Strategy
Lord of the Rings: Battle For Middle-Earth 2
Sure it’s a mouthful to say but it was the first strategy game to have a successful control system on a console and it had the fun gameplay to back it up. It’s also licensed from one of my favourite movie series’ of all time so that didn’t hurt it in my eyes.
Runner Up: Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars
