Winner!

I came home from work today to an e-mail from World of Apple. Thinking it was a newsletter or some such I clicked and prepared to delete.

Luckily I didn’t have to tho as it was in fact an e-mail informing me I’d won a license of ImageWell. I entered the giveaway last week when they published the review.

It was a nice surprise to come home to. I even had my name on their website front page for a while!

Iron Man

I’m hopefully going to see Iron Man on Friday with Chris and I just read the first review of it and it says it’s really good. Yay! I’m optimistic that I’ll enjoy it even tho I’m not a big fan of the character.

A sign of the Times

I bounce around RSS readers quite a lot. I’ve used Vienna, NetNewsWire (once it went free), NewsFire (again, once it was free), Google Reader, Flock, Safari and Apple’s Mail.

I don’t really get excited about new RSS readers but this Times one looks very nifty indeed.

My main attraction to it is that it supposedly makes it feel like you’re reading a newspaper or magazine. I am one of those weird people that even tho I can get the info for free on the web, I still prefer to go out and buy a magazine and read it.

Something about having something tangible in my hands makes me absorb the information better. Odd, I know.

I’m also intrigued by the ’shelf’ you can use to store highlighted articles. I’m forever opening links in Firefox with the intention to copy the url and post about it on here but nine times out of ten I accidentally close the tab and forget to go back.

Hopefully, in five days time when Times is released, that shall be solved.

Halotography

I found this Flickr set via one of my game sites and I have to say it’s some nifty shit. The photos are actually in game screenshots taken using Halo 3 and then modified using Photoshop or some such.

Some of the photos look like models tho which is pretty cool. I wish they were bigger tho cos there’s a couple that would make awesome desktop backgrounds.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower

theperksofbeingawallflower.jpgWhat an amazing book.

I really connected with this book. It’s about a boy called Charlie who writes these letters to an unknown person and they are all collected together over the course of his first year at high school.

He starts without friends and is a bit of a weirdo. But by the end of the book you can’t help but feel the same as this kid in some way.

Everyone feels like an outsider at school I think and yet we all box ourselves into ‘cliques’ and the strong pick on the weak and it’s just stupid because we’re all just the same.

That’s what I’ve come away from this book with anyway.

Not quite time to jack

Hm, Game apparently didn’t dispatch GTA4 to me until today which is a bit annoying since I prolly won’t get it till Monday now. At least I’m off work on Monday and not in till 5 on Tuesday so I can play it then. Yay!

We were infinite

Have you ever listened to a song and it seems like it changes pace when you listen to it at different times? This seems to happen to me a lot when I listen to Snow Patrol’s Open Your Eyes.

If I’m listening to it in the shower in the morning before work then it seems to go fast but if, like tonight, I’m on my way home after a long day at work it seems to go slow.

Obviously it doesn’t actually change tempo but it’s strange that it appears to.

I’m reading this book called The Perks of Being a Wallflower and it’s a brilliant book. But more than that it talks about the way that the character connects with music and at one point he uses the phrase “we are infinite” to describe how he feels sometimes when he hears a really good song that totally fits the moment in time. I really like that.

That’s how I feel about Snow Patrol’s Open Your Eyes. Whenever I listen to that song it makes me feel happy and optimistic. It reminds me of all the different places I’ve listened to it and I can recall those moments and it makes me smile.

It’s the kind of song you would listen to it you were caught outside in a storm and it would make you not care you were caught outside in a storm.

I sound like the kid from my book.

We are destined to fail

It’s an exciting time at work just now, we’re in the midst of the changeover from Beanscene produce to Tinderbox’s.

Our new master’s want us to remain Beanscene but they’re changing our coffee, food and cakes to the same as Tinderbox’s….doesn’t that sort of make us the same?

Not that I mind of course, we get new shit! I’m so excited to get new panini’s and stuff cos I’m bored of ours. Hopefully the Tinderbox ones will be nice.

The cakes sound pretty nice too: victoria sponge (YUM!), apple and cinnamon cake, double chocolate brownie, chocolate tiffin and cappuccino cake.

Apparently Tinderbox’s coffee (Matthew Algae) is the tastiest of all the coffee shops so I’m quite excited to try it since I don’t really like our coffee at the moment. It’s too bitter tasting.

And while there is excitement for the future, there is sorrow in the present. It was Ros’s last day today :( work just won’t be as fun without her.

Eleven hour shift tomorrow, really not looking forward to it.

Dead Cert

deadcert.jpgI finished my latest book Dead Cert by Dick Francis tonight and I have to say it was the most engrossing book I’ve read in a while.

Dead Cert was published in 1962 (it’s older than Tim!) and tells the story of a jockey named Alan York and his eventful life after a fellow jockey and friend is killed during a race.

While everyone else writes it off as an accident, Alan swears it was murder and sets out to find out who was behind it.

The closer he gets to the truth tho, the more it seems to unravel as he and people close to him are hurt as warnings to stop his enquiries.

When another jockey is murdered for speaking to Alan he knows he has crossed the line and can either stop and be safe or go on and risk everything.

Overall it was a very thrilling book which kept me guessing as to who was behind it all when everyone seemed like a suspect.

Apparently Dick Francis has written a fair few novels so I will be sure to keep an eye out for his name.

It’s jackin’ time

Yay! I got an e-mail today that my pre-order for GTAIV is being processed. I’m hoping it’ll come on Friday or Saturday, that’d be awesome.
