Alternate universe
I was washing dishes tonight in work and I got to thinking about chance. If something happens one way, what happens to all the other options?
I like to think that there’s billions (I was gonna say trillions but I don’t know if that’s actually a proper term yet) of alternate realities where all those other options reside.
So for instance there’s one where I never met Tim and I’m alone, there’s one where I’m not gay, one where I was never born, one where I died aged 10. That sort of thing.
It’s fun to sit and think of what your life could’ve been if you’d done just one thing different. What would my life be like if I were straight? Would I be a better person? Would I be happier?
What if I’d been born a girl? Would I have been a lesbian?
If you think about it too much though I think your head would explode. Maybe in an alternate reality…

But you’re kind of a lesbian already so ……….
I for one am very glad you met Tim, you make him happy and you took him away from that little troll he was dating!!

There would likely be infinite alternate realities, very similar to our own, in which small changes can cascade to change a lot.
Parallel universes are quite fun to explore, it’s been done a few times on Stargate SG-1, via a dimensional mirror, where they can transport to alternate realities that are very similar to our own reality (you want to stay close, you don’t want to end up in a reality where dinosaurs weren’t all wiped out).
