We were infinite
Have you ever listened to a song and it seems like it changes pace when you listen to it at different times? This seems to happen to me a lot when I listen to Snow Patrol’s Open Your Eyes.
If I’m listening to it in the shower in the morning before work then it seems to go fast but if, like tonight, I’m on my way home after a long day at work it seems to go slow.
Obviously it doesn’t actually change tempo but it’s strange that it appears to.
I’m reading this book called The Perks of Being a Wallflower and it’s a brilliant book. But more than that it talks about the way that the character connects with music and at one point he uses the phrase “we are infinite” to describe how he feels sometimes when he hears a really good song that totally fits the moment in time. I really like that.
That’s how I feel about Snow Patrol’s Open Your Eyes. Whenever I listen to that song it makes me feel happy and optimistic. It reminds me of all the different places I’ve listened to it and I can recall those moments and it makes me smile.
It’s the kind of song you would listen to it you were caught outside in a storm and it would make you not care you were caught outside in a storm.
I sound like the kid from my book.
