Grab Up, not to be confused with the shitty dance “street” movie Step Up, is an interesting little application for the Mac.

When you hit command-shift-4 on a Mac, you are given a little set of crosshairs and you can click and drag over a selected area of the screen and a jpg of this area is delivered to your desktop.

GrabUp takes this a step further by taking the screenshot, uploading it to their servers and giving you a url for it. It’s similar to ImageShack in that you don’t need an account or login for this to work so it’s quick and easy for showing someone something.

GrabUp takes it one step further tho and actually copies the url to your clipboard automagically so all you need do it navigate to your IM, web browser or e-mail client and press command+v and you’re done.

It’s a nifty programme with minimal intrusion. However I worry about the fact that it uploads something to somewhere without my knowledge. How am I to know it isn’t uploading the contents of my hard drive in the background after the first time I used it?

The image attached to the start of this post was uploaded using GrabUp and worked flawlessly so I am impressed, don’t get me wrong it’s a very handy application. I just worry about the security side to it.
