Summertime, when the weather is hot
It’s 81ºF in Seattle right now (that’s 27ºC for all you Metrics) and sunny, there’s not a cloud in the sky.
I took advantage of the lovely weather to sit out the back and finish my book, Jeffery Deaver’s The Broken Window. I love the Lincoln Rhyme novels, I love most crime thrillers really but the first one that really stuck with me was Jeffery Deaver’s The Vanished Man which I received as a birthday present a few years ago.
The Broken Window is set after that one obviously and is in part linked to the last Rhyme novel, The Cold Moon, which I’ve also read. This one delves into a killer who has access to a data mining company’s servers and uses the information he finds to kill people and frame others for it.
The amount of information the company has on people is staggering, and more alarming yet is that the information was all attained legally i.e. anyone therefore could get this kinda information on you.
Now while the company in the book is fictional, the author notes that he took the idea from company’s that DO exist. Which just creeps the hell outta me.
Anyway the story itself was brilliant and I can’t wait for the next Rhyme novel. I also have The Empty Chair and The Coffin Dancer with me to read and after those I’ll have read all but one of the Rhyme novels which I’m sure I’ll be purchasing at some point in the very near future.
I’d recommend the Rhyme novels to anyone looking for a different kind of crime thriller that always keeps you guessing.
