The cogs keep on turning
I got Gears of Wars 2 in the mail this morning and so far it’s pretty fun. It’s really just Gears of War but with a few extra guns, some light graphics improvements and a new story. I think there’s a lot of multiplayer improvements but I doubt I’ll play that much. I’m looking forward to co-op campaign with Tim though, that made the first Gears for me.
Dead Set

I watched the first episode of Dead Set tonight and I have to say I was impressed. It’s Big Brother, with zombies. So far not a lot has happened and it’ll be interesting to see what they can develop over the five episodes but if nothing else it proves that Brits really are the best at doing low budget zombie flicks.

We did it!
Barack Obama was just elected President of the United States of America.
His acceptance speech was pretty good, he even mentioned the gays before the straighties.
A couple of people have given me “advice” warning that it could still be years before Obama invokes equal rights.I’m well aware of that, part of why I kinda hoped McCain would win is because it would be faster for Tim to move to UK since it’s already in place here.
But you know I don’t care if it take a year or two, because it’s gonna happen. The Democrats have the Presidency AND a majority in the House and Senate.
I woke up this morning with hope for my future, knowing it was just a matter of time till it happens.
Judgement Day beckons
Well tomorrow’s the day. My future is decided. Do I move to Seattle or do I stay in Scotland? If Obama wins then hopefully within a year or two I can move to Seattle. If McCain wins then within a year or two Tim will be moving here.
God I hope Obama wins.

I went out earlier tonight on my first little proper photo excursion since I got home. Now it’s getting darker earlier in the evenings I wanted to go out and take some long exposure shots of the traffic round the corner.
Of all the shots this is probably my favourite. It was also the weirdest to shoot. I was standing in the middle of the road (on an island) with traffic whooshing past on either side. I’m sure I got a few looks to say the least.

Stick a needle in me

Well that’s freaky. Last week I saw a poster in Clarkston about them having a blood drive and I wondered about going along. I wasn’t sure if the whole “gay men all have aids, we don’t want their blood” rule was in place. Apparently it is.
I understand that HIV is stereotypically a gay disease, and with reason, but straight people have it too. Also, surely they must test the blood before giving it to someone so what’s the problem with gay men donating if they know they are clean? It is a ridiculously stupid rule and all the while they have constant advertising that they are in dire need of blood.
Well donations would be 10% higher if you’d drop the archaic rules…

The 360 now lets you create Avatars, which are really just prettied up Mii’s. I have to say I like the 360 versions better, they’re much closer to real people. Hopefully there’ll be more customization options as time goes on. And Microsoft mustn’t charge for them, that’d totally ruin the whole thing.
Anyway, here’s my avatar.
No he isn’t supposed to look like me, I was too lazy and superficial to do that. And isn’t the point of video games escapism anyway?
New Xbox, New Xperience

I woke up this morning, turned on my 360 to play some Lego Star Wars and got a prompt to download a console update. Huh? I hadn’t been accepted into the preview program so what the hell was this? I accepted, it installed and lo and behold when I booted up afterwards there was the NXE. So I dunno what happened, if I didn’t get the email or if there was some sort of glitch at Xbox HQ but I got it anyway and it seems pretty cool. A lot less cumbersome from my initial trials anyway.
I shall update later with my impressions, I have to go to work now. Boo!
Broken toy soldier
So I heard from Tim and he’s mostly fine, just a sprained wrist and fractured ankle. He’s off work till Monday which is good, though he’s going a bit stir crazy cos he can’t play most of his games which he isn’t happy about.
I can’t believe that tomorrow is the first of November, that’s just scary. Where the hell did October go? Did it slip down the side of the sofa or something?
I was talking to Abby at work the other day about our perception of time. How some things seem to go fast and others slow, but really they are all going at the same speed.
Like for instance from the time when I book my flights in April till I went to Seattle in June, it was about eight or nine weeks but it seemed a lifetime. Yet now Tim is visiting again in seven weeks and the time is zooming by. What gives?
I think it’s my perception of the visits, Seattle I was happy to be going and was gonna be work free for three months and see Tim and all that. Christmas I don’t know if I’ll be off work, have enough money and he’s only here for ten short days.
Ah well.
