Complete suckage

This is why long distance relationships suck. People get hit by cars and I am left on the other side of the world scared shitless and feeling completely useless.

EDIT: Woops, that was kinda dramatic. Tim was struck by a car while crossing the street this morning. He’s fine apart from a possible broken wrist and ankle. He’s in the emergency room getting x-rays just now. I shall update when I know more.

Weather lies

You have to love when you look at the weather forecast and it give you the high and low temperature for the day. Like today the low is 35, yet it says it’s 34 just now. Shouldn’t they make it update to change the low to the actual low?

And how depressing is it that the high temperature in Glasgow was 38?! It’s too early for it to be that cold everyday!

Trundling train

I’m on the train into town at the moment to get Ross a birthday present since it’s his birthday today. Apparently he got a DS lite for his birthday so I’ll prolly get him a game for that.

I’m also gonna try and get some Christmas shopping started so I know how much money I have to spend on other things for Tims visit. Someone on this train smells like Christmas, some sort of perfume or something I guess.

I think I’ll treat myself to another of the new Torchwood books to read while I have lunch in Starbucks. I bought one last week and really enjoyed it. Maybe I’ll get the one set after season two.

I will race you to the waterside

I got Snow Patol’s new album this week and I’m really liking it. It’s not much of an evolution from Eyes Open but there are a few songs that have a very new sound to them that I like.

I’m glad it turned out good cos I was a bit nervous it wouldn’t after I was disappointed by Keane’s latest offering. I don’t know what went wrong there but I really can’t make myself like it at all. I think I’m still pissed they cancelled the gig I was meant to see them at.

I’ve almost completed Lego Batman to 100%, the game is really fun. I didn’t really enjoy Lego Indiana Jones so I wasn’t expecting to get much out of Lego Batman, plus I’m not that fond of Batman anyway, so it was a real surprise how much I’ve enjoyed it.

It’s days like this that make long distance relationships suck. It’s Tim’s birthday today and the best I can do is to phone him and wish him a happy birthday. It seriously bites. America better elect the correct President and he better get the equal rights through lickety quick so I can be out there for Tim’s next birthday. I’m sick of missing them.

Anyway, happy birthday Tim! See me in eight weeks for your present :)

High School Musical 3

Well that’s my gay card paid in full for another year…

Tonight I went with Paula and Susan (Paula’s little sister) to see High School Musical 3. Paula has been dying to see it for weeks and with Sabah M.I.A I stepped in and asked her if she wanted to go see it.

Considering I haven’t seen HSM 1 or 2 and have always thought they looked shit, I actually quite enjoyed it. It’s a feel good movie designed to make you feel happy. It doesn’t try to do any more than that and it succeeds.

So much so to the point that I am downloading the first and second movies along with all three soundtracks. OK that should make my gay card payment good up till 2020 at least. Right?

Dreaming of a white christmas

I’m off work for two consecutive days this week, the first time that’s happened since I went back to work. It’s like a little mini holiday. I went into town this afternoon to meet Chris for coffee. I went in an hour and a half early and had some lunch and a read of one of the new Torchwood books which I bought.

For lunch I had an italian mozzarella and sun-dried tomatoes, pesto and black olives panini which was very tasty actually. Last time I had one it was kinda shit but this one was super tasty, even if I did burn my tongue on it. It was washed down with a skinny white mocha and a This Water mangoes and passion fruit water.

After I’d eaten I still had some time to kill so I went on a walk around the shops since Tim tasked me to tell him things for him to buy my family. I’m an impulse Christmas shopper, I’ll just go into town and see things and think so-and-so would like that, and then buy it. I don’t sit down and make lists and read up on things. So going around the shops trying to find things to tell him wasn’t easy. I came out with exactly zero ideas, I guess I’m failing homework this week!

Chris text me then so we met up and went back to Starbucks (caramel macchiato this time) and chatted and then went over to the Apple Store because the HR dude had phoned him so he spoke to him and he has a recruitment thing to go to tomorrow which is cool. After that I got the train home which was, as the 5:15 train always is, overcrowded and overheated.

Tim booked his flights this morning for Christmas so he’s definitely coming now. He arrives Thursday 18th at 2:30PM after leaving Seattle at 9AM the day before. He’ll be travellling for something like 21 hours, craziness! He leaves on the 29th which is a day later than he was supposed to so that makes me happy. My only outstanding annoyance is the lack of knowing how much time off I can get at Christmas. I want to plan things for us to do, like a day or two in Edinburgh, a pantomime, but these are things that are much cheaper if booked in advance.

I’m gonna speak to Sarah again about it on Thursday, I just feel like a pest keeping asking her but it’s the only 10 days I’ll get to see Tim for until summer again. I want to spend as much time and do as much as possible with him as I can.

I really hope it snows this Christmas…

(RED)Book

(RED)BookYesterday I received my Speck MacBook case in the post so now my MacBook is lovely and red. Basically it’s a hard ’shell’ that clips onto it and protects it. I don’t need it for the protection though since I’ve only dropped my MacBook once (and that was Dolce’s fault) but I wanted to add some stickers to my MacBook after seeing Frankie’s.

On a related note, I somehow missed that Apple had removed FireWire from the MacBook and the MacBook Pro only has a Firewire 800 port. I think the FireWire 400 and 800 ports are the same fit so I think you can use FireWire 400 in an 800 port. I’m hoping so anyway cos I need a FireWire port for my external HD so it’ll be a MacBook Pro I’m getting.

New MacBooks

Apple had their little shindig today and as I predicted (but hoped I was wrong) it was less than spectacular. Pretty much nothing was a surprise thanks to the picture leaks all across the net. Amazingly the “price cut” rumours turned out to be completely wrong. Not only did Apple only lower the price of only one notebook, and even then it was only $100, but they increased the prices on just about all the rest. In this economic climate? Bold move.

I do actually quite like the look of the new MacBooks and Pros and will probably now be upgrading to another MacBook rather than a Pro. The speed will be the same, as will the RAM but it’ll be a slower graphics chip. The new MacBook’s chip is 5x faster than my current one though so I think it’ll be just fine, and I’m sure I can use the $400 I’ll save for something fun.

Spotlight

Apple is holding another of their ‘events’ tomorrow for notebooks and as usual, the rumours abound. Me, I’m hoping they update the MacBook Pro’s since I’m looking to maybe upgrade to a Pro over the summer as a 21st birthday present to myself. Really tho I don’t see how they can change it though, they didn’t change it much from it being the Powerbook to it being the MacBook Pro so I guess if they are gonna change it then they’ll do something pretty radical.

What annoys me about these events is that Apple lets the media run rampant with speculation, and sometimes contributes to it, and then when they don’t deliver (or rather they don’t deliver in the way the media hyped it to be) their stock takes a pummeling. In the current economic climate they can’t really afford to play games with their stock prices so either they’re stupid, arrogant or have something really good up their sleeve.

Maybe they’re going to do for the laptopĀ  what the iPhone did for the cell phone?

Life plods on

I got a call from the HR manager of the Apple Store on Buchanan Street yesterday afternoon. They’re recruiting for the store and he wanted to ask me a couple questions. Unfortunately I missed the call and then I was working all day yesterday and then again this morning so when I finished at 2 I rang him up. Of course he wasn’t there so I’m gonna call back tomorrow.

The Apple Store is the only place I’d leave my current job for. I’m also hoping that since it’s a larger store there’s a better chance that I’ll be able to get time off for Christmas since I’m leaning towards Tim coming out then rather than March.

I went into town today to meet Chris for coffee and for him to “fix” Tim’s PSP. Unfortunately he didn’t manage to do it because it wouldn’t work but it was nice catching up with him and Andrew. They’re off to Belgium on holiday for a few days so I’ll hear all about that when I meet up with him next.
