American Gods

I’ve sat for the last three hours or so finishing my book. Mostly because I was bored of games and tv shows but also because it was really good.

The story wasn’t really the most action packed and it just sort of ambled along but it did it in such a charming and hilarious, at times, way that even though nothing was really happening you still felt satisfied.

The idea of making gods everyday people is brilliant, as is the idea that they need us to survive not the other way around.

I’m excited to read Neverwhere, another novel by Neil Gaiman, but I’m gonna read Darkly Dreaming Dexter first.

Alone for Christmas

Since it’s looking more and more unlikely that I’m gonna be able to get the time off that I want from work at Christmas I said to Tim that maybe he shouldn’t come.

It’s gonna cost him like £700 just to get here at Christmas and then on top of that there’ll be traveling expenses and Christmas presents and it’ll prolly end up costing him at least $2k.

I’m going to Paris in March with Mum and I said to him why doesn’t he come then. Flights’ll be cheaper and he’ll be able to take off more time to visit so we can do more. We can also go to Paris together which’d be ace.

So while that’s the better idea, I still want him to come at Christmas. Mostly cos not seeing him till March is a longer wait but also because I love spending Christmas with him. But I know from experience it’s a really hectic time to meet people.

Grrr it’s so bloody frustrating. What would you do?

Twilight

OMFreakin’G, I just saw the latest trailer for Twilight and it looks awesome. I loved the tip to the book cover, thought that was genius. I dunno if I like the whole emo look Robert Pattinson has going on, yes he has to be pale but why is he wearing eyeliner and lipstick?

Regardless I will definitely be going to see this movie on release date.

Neverwhere

Today was my day off (only one this week :() so I met up with Paula and we went up to EK to do some shopping.

After a brief lunch at McDonalds we headed round the shops. I bought two books that were on sale in HMV; Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman and Catch 22 by Joseph Heller. I’m still reading American Gods by Neil Gaiman so I’ll start one of these when I’ve finished that.

I downloaded Keane’s new album tonight and on first listen I wasn’t all that impressed. I also downloaded Elliot Minors album and that I really like. It’s very McFly/Click Five.

I finish work at 2 tomorrow and if it’s a nice day I’m gonna head out and try to get some photos.

Paris, Je T’aime

Next March I’m going to Paris for a week with Mum and maybe Ross and Gill. It’s the same place we went to in the Spring of ‘05. I can’t wait as the place is really picturesque but also I can get in some photos of Paris which is my second favourite city in the world.

Fring

I just downloaded a new app for my iPhone called Fring. It allows you to call a variety of different networks such as Skype, MSN Messenger contacts and many more. I just tried it out with Ian and it seems to work pretty good. Shall be looking into this some more in the near future me thinks.

Back to the start

Ian Blair finally resigned from his position yesterday, three years and seven bullets after he should’ve. How he managed to hang on this long is beyond me.

I got paid today and transferred £50 across to my savings, I figure that’s a better idea than waiting to see how much I have left at the end of the week. If the moneys sitting there in my account then I know I’ll just spend it, this way I can’t.

We’ve started a little lottery thing in work. Basically you pick a number from one to fifty and pay £1 and if you’re number is the bonus ball on Saturday’s lottery draw then you win the pot. Myself, Abby, Andy and Sarah all put in two numbers and Emma and Kirstie did one so the pot this week will be £10. Fingers crossed!

Two weeks today Ross will be home, it’s so bizarre. It’ll be nice to have him home, but hopefully he’s learnt how to boost the heating after he’s been for a bath!

Tim’s booking his flights next week so once he’s done that I’m gonna put in for the time off from work and then book my flights to London and our flights back. We’re looking at hiring a car while we’re in Glasgow so maybe we can do a bit of sightseeing which’ll be nice.

After whinging about how many games are coming out this fall I now find myself without any to play. The next release isn’t till next Friday so in the meantime I’m replaying The Force Unleashed. I also have Viva Piñata 2 to play but I can’t get myself into it. It just feels like all the same things I did a year and a half ago.

I’m still reading American Gods, it seems to be taking me ages since I’ve only really read it at work. I’m really enjoying it though, it’s got a very original story and lots of interesting characters.

Changes

I just finished watching this weeks Heroes and I was glad to see it’s continuing it’s good streak. The only shitty thing is the Parkman spirit walk storyline, but then I’ve never been interested in Parkman and his boring power.

Tonight I was at Mandy and Emma’s for dinner because it was Emma’s birthday. It was fun getting to see them since I haven’t seen them since I got back. Mandy is pregnant again which is cool, hopefully this time it’ll stick.

I took over my photo album since my photos came today. I made two photo albums, one of Seattle and one of everything else. I only took the Seattle one with me tho. It was really just to sort of put Tim in front of them in many photos and show what a part of my life he is.

I’ll prolly send out an e-mail to everyone before he arrives just making it crystal clear what he is and what we are.

Speaking of Tim, five weeks from now the US election will be underway or even over. It’s kind of scary that that event is gonna shape my future so much. Well not really my future, just where it’s gonna be.

If Obama wins then I’ll be moving to the States once he puts equal rights in place like he says he will, unfortunately that might take a while. If McCain wins then Tim will move over here within the next year or two.

I’m kinda wishing McCain would win so that we could be together quicker, who knows how long it’ll take Obama to pass equal rights? But I don’t think I could live in Scotland my entire life and I love our house in Seattle too much.

It’d be cool if Tim could move over here till I finish school and then we move back there but it’d be too expensive and also Americans can’t have dual citizenship so if Tim were to move here and marry me he’d never be able to go back.

His Mum would hate me for that.

Recap

I really don’t have a very exciting life at the moment, which is why I’m barely blogging. All I’m doing is working, working, working it seems.

I went to the cinema with Paula last week to see The Women which was rather dull, the film not Paula. Unfortunately there’s no good films out for another couple of weeks, and then they come out by the truckload.

I wish I was the kind of person that could just go out drinkingk but I’m really not. Paula and Sabah go out to clubs and stuff but that just isn’t my scene. I’d rather go to a coffee shop/pub and chat than a noisy bar full of drunk teenagers.

This Friday is Kirstin’s birthday shindig and I’m not really in the mood for it cos I know it’s gonna be exactly what I described above and I won’t have fun. Maybe I’ll meet her for lunch on Sunday or something.

I have to work six days next week which should be fun. Renata’s off on holiday so a couple of us have to work six days to cover her. I’m not really bothered cos I won’t be doing anything anyway and it’ll get me more money. I just hope I don’t have any ten hour shifts next week, they always ruin my week.

Ross is home two weeks on Thursday which is just scary. I can’t believe it’s been a year already, it seems like the time has flown. I still can’t believe October starts in two days, Christmas will be here in no time!

Speaking of Christmas, Tim got confirmation from his boss that he can go on holiday at Christmas so now all he has to do is book his flights. I’m flying down to London on the 18th to meet him and then we’re spending a couple days in London before either flying or getting the train back to Glasgow.

I went to Au Naturale yesterday with Mum and I got a 15 tog winter duvet. 15 tog is the thickest you can get, but I bet I’ll still need another one come wintertime. I really hate this room in winter cos it gets so bloody cold.

I also found the bed I wanna buy, since my current one is broken so I have to get a new one before Tim comes to visit. The one I found is £99 from Au Naturale and has a black leather headboard and sides. It’s really nice.

Book worm

I don’t give up easily on books. Normally if I’m struggling to get into a book I’ll persevere and eventually get to the good part. But not All The Pretty Horses. It has to have been the dullest book I ever read, no kidding. Nothing happened and it’s written in this really dull tone.

I read The Road by Cormac McCarthy and it was pretty much the same but stuff happened in that book and I really enjoyed it. ATPH was not the same at all and though I say I’ll go back to it I really don’t see myself enjoying it anymore second time round.

So I’ve started on Neil Gaiman’s American Gods and so far I’m enjoying it much more, though it’s a bit surreal and I’m not entirely sure what it’s gonna be about. But that’s good!
